Renting a Villa for a Wedding or Private Event on the French Riviera
Organising a wedding, milestone birthday or private event in a French Riviera villa is a magnificent promise — provided you know the right practices. Between real capacity, acoustic constraints, catering logistics and budget, surprises are frequent. This guide, drawn from our experience with several weddings organised at Villa Canopy, will help you anticipate everything.
Why choose a villa over a dedicated venue?
Classic wedding estates (châteaux, farms, priories) certainly offer logistical efficiency, but often at the cost of standardisation. A private villa presents several advantages:
Total exclusivity — No other couples the same week, no crossing processions in the alleys. The place is yours for the entire stay.
Integrated accommodation — The bride and groom and their relatives can live together several days before and after the ceremony, transforming the wedding into a genuinely intimate celebration.
Freedom of arrangement — You compose your ceremony, dinner and evening without specifications imposed by the venue.
Often lower overall cost for a large event, especially if you integrate several nights.
Real capacity: beyond the number of bedrooms
A villa accommodating 10 guests for a stay can host between 50 and 120 people for a reception, depending on several criteria.
Acoustic constraints
The French Riviera has applied strict noise regulations in residential areas since 2020. After 10pm, authorised sound levels are considerably reduced. Outdoor DJs and live bands are limited, sometimes prohibited depending on the commune.
Villa Canopy is located in a private, secured estate away from dwellings, offering acoustic tolerance well above average. But even here, amplified music until 2am requires a studied setup.
Practical solutions:
- Move the dance party indoors after 11pm
- Use a directional sound system with limiter
- Prefer an acoustic DJ (rather than a live band) for the end of the evening
Available spaces
For a wedding, think about staging the different moments:
- Ceremony (45 min-1h) — A shaded garden, a terrace with view, a patio for 50-120 guests
- Cocktail (1h30-2h) — A flat, shaded space with fluid circulation between cocktail tables
- Seated dinner (2h-3h) — Tables of 8-10 people, possible table service
- Dance party (3h-5h) — Dance floor, DJ, bar
Villa Canopy has 7,000 m² of private grounds with several distinct spaces: the large central garden for the ceremony (up to 120 people), the pool terrace for the cocktail, the pizza-oven area for dinner under the stars.
Essential vendors
Wedding planner
For an event of more than 40 people, a wedding planner becomes essential. On the Saint-Tropez peninsula, the best are Calec Events, Soirée de Rêve, MC2 Events. Count 10-15% of the total budget (package or percentage), with a floor generally at €8,000.
Caterer
Three quality levels are represented locally:
- High-end caterers: Lenôtre Saint-Tropez, Potel & Chabot (intervening on the Riviera), Oswald Traiteur. €180-350 per person including drinks.
- Premium local caterers: Maison Tropézienne, Saveurs Provençales. €90-160 per person.
- Confidential caterers: some former Michelin-starred chefs offer bespoke services. €150-300 per person.
Florist
The choice of florist hugely influences the visual result. Local references: Verdure in Saint-Tropez, L’Artisan Fleuriste in Gassin. Minimum budget for a 50-person wedding: €3,000-5,000. For sophisticated production (floral arch, elaborate centrepieces, ceremony decor): €8,000-20,000.
Photographer and videographer
The Saint-Tropez peninsula attracts the best European wedding photographers. Elodie + Ben, Cécile Bachelier, Helene Havard are among the references. Budget: €3,500-7,000 for a full day.
Sound and lighting
A professional sound-lighting provider is indispensable. Local references: Noctis Events, Sud Music Event. Count €1,500-4,000 depending on the setup scale.
Furniture and tableware rental
The French Riviera has excellent specialised rental companies: Options, Les Grands Buffets, Top Receptions. Chairs and tableware budget for 80 people: €1,200-3,000 depending on range.
Realistic budget: what to plan?
The orders of magnitude below concern a wedding of 80 people in a Saint-Tropez peninsula villa in season:
- Villa rental (3 nights + reception): €15,000-35,000
- Caterer and drinks (80 people): €9,000-25,000
- Wedding planner: €6,000-12,000
- Florist: €4,000-12,000
- Photo and video: €5,000-10,000
- Sound and lighting: €2,500-5,000
- Furniture and tableware: €2,000-4,000
- Entertainment (DJ, band): €3,000-8,000
- Miscellaneous (transport, guests’ accommodation, hair, dress…): €10,000-30,000
Typical total budget: €55,000 to €140,000 for a premium 80-person wedding on the peninsula.

The climate: when to organise?
On the French Riviera, optimal months are May, June and September. Here are their characteristics:
- May: Mild climate (22-25°C), verdant nature, still measured crowds. Non-zero rain risk (15%).
- June: Ideal. Long days (sunset at 9:30pm), summer heat, still cool nights for the evening.
- July: Possible but maximum tourist attendance, vendor rates at their peak.
- August: Massively requested wedding month, saturated vendors, temperatures sometimes excessive for an outdoor ceremony.
- September: The other ideal. Magnificent golden light, warm sea, softer atmosphere, negotiable rates.
Administrative constraints for a civil wedding
A civil wedding in France must be celebrated at the town hall of one of the spouses’ residence. It is therefore impossible to be officially married in a villa. Two approaches:
Solution 1 — Celebrate the civil at the usual residence town hall, then organise a symbolic ceremony at the villa (officiated by a relative or master of ceremonies).
Solution 2 — Establish a provisional residence (30 days minimum) in a French Riviera commune before the wedding, allowing marriage at the local town hall. The town halls of La Croix-Valmer, Ramatuelle or Gassin offer particularly careful ceremonies in superb settings.
For a religious ceremony, the Notre-Dame-des-Anges chapel in Gassin is one of the most sought-after places on the peninsula.
Beyond weddings: other events
Villa Canopy also regularly hosts other types of private events:
- Milestone birthdays (40, 50, 60 years) — Often more intimate format (30-50 people) over one or two days
- High-end corporate retreats — Incentive, leadership seminar, product launch
- Family celebrations — Communions, bar mitzvahs, vow renewals, extended family reunions
- Creative retreats — Workshops, writing residences, coaching seminars
For each format, our team adapts logistical support to the project. Villa Canopy’s strength is precisely this versatility: a domain large enough to host, intimate enough to inhabit.
